UCSF Mission Bay Dojo

Training Schedule

In-person classes are held on Fridays from 7-8:30pm starting in January 2024. The classes go for 10 weeks this quarter and 12 weeks next quarter. During Federal Holidays, classes are typically canceled. Please note that Zoom classes are no longer being offered.

Please also check the News page for last minute announcements such as days where training is closed for holidays.

Non-members are welcome to watch us train or join in; we ask that you please talk to one of the black belts the first time you come to the dojo.

Enrollment

Our Dojo is open to students, faculty and staff, as well as the community at large. Classes are open to both beginners and those with previous experience in Shotokan karate or other martial arts. UCSF sets the fees at $240/quarter for the general public, $210/quarter for Bakar members (equating to $20/class), or a drop-in fee of $25/class for visitors (this drop-in fee is set by UCSF).

Dress in comfortable workout clothes or wear your gi (uniform) if you have one. At the beginning of each term, there is an introductory class. The class provides an overview of Shotokan Karate training. While these are ideal times to join, new students are accepted at any time. When you arrive, introduce yourself to one of the black belts. You may also send an e-mail to Merv Dixon or Bill Maske to let us know you're coming or to ask any questions you may have.
